Interview with hard techno music producers _asstnt & Roll Dann

With a shared love for industrial & hardcore techno, music producers _asstnt and Roll Dann have announced a collaborative EP titled Emergency Break/ MT39 via MindTrip. These two talents have breathed the techno scene their whole lives, both growing up in musically orientated households. Set for official release on the 29th of October, we cannot wait to see what is yet to be revealed by these two Madrid-based creatives. Recently sharing the EP featured track, ‘Red Rhythms’ via OECUS, our minds and hearts feel like we are at a rave weekend away.  Ahead of a release we only can imagine to be an epic celebration of the techno scene, we chatted with these two producers below.

Pre-order Emergency Break/ MT39

What are your earliest memories of techno music?

Our first illegal raves with our own sound system. More than 24h free parties located near Madrid.

Tell us more about how your latest release was conceived and created.

We met at the studio around January 2021 and before we began working we spoke about the goals of the studio session. We wanted to work on tracks with few elements but well processed and hypnotic sounds. Something deeper and with a nice groove. Straight to the dance floor.

What are the key pieces of gear or software that you are using when producing music?

We usually work with Ableton live using different plugins from Waves, SoundToys, UAD, Native Instruments… We use software just for a few elements as hi hats using MFB Tanzbar 2 and for synths we love the duality of Mother 32 by Moog.

What is your favourite part of the creative/production process?

The first part of the process, when you have an idea and start to search how to recreate it. Then the mix.

What is the most memorable response you’ve had to your music?

Been played by the most influential artists for us and see so many people dancing to our music. That means the world for us!

Outside of music, where do you draw inspiration from?

We draw our inspiration from nature, books, films but mostly about our feelings from our real life.

What is your favourite subgenre of techno music and why?

Minimal in Clubs, German hard techno & Schranz in illegal Raves were our firsts contacts with techno music.
