Experimental producer NFNR has arrived on our radar with a… well, I wouldn’t necessarily say a bang but more a cacophony of synthetic sounds melding with industrial elements. The Ukrainian producer (working under the acronym for Neither Rich Nor Famous) released her latest EP, Dog Rose late last year via Corridor Audio and has steadily been gaining notice in the international community since.

The album has recently been supported by several publications including Mixmag as well as A Room who picked up on NFNR’s experimental platform, Women’s Sound for women and non-binary people in Ukraine. In an interview with the blog, NFNR discussed the objectives of the project:
“We want to achieve more diverse and balanced line-ups, respectful relationships with women and non-binary in the music sphere, permanent equal representation and coverage in media, equal performance fees and equal fees for different music services, equal opportunities in the music sphere in general. But it`s a long process, the first thing is to support and give confidence to those who start doing music, who want to learn music, who are afraid to represent their works to the audience or don`t believe in themselves. And also, the popularization of Ukrainian female and non-binary artists in our country and abroad is the top task.”
While there are several memorable tracks of the Dog Rose EP, our focus was immediately drawn to the mythical ‘Eros Bird’ which was created to reflect the triumphant pleasure of both being and a sense of unity. NFNR shines best with her refined, yet dramatic tones and an unmistakable individualist style. We’d recommend keeping an eye on this one moving forward.
